Can standing seam panels be installed directly onto a SIP panel?

To install onto a SIPS (structural insulated panels), the top board should be at least 18mm thick in order to provide the correct pull out values for the seam clips. However not many manufacturers seem to make with 18mm boards.

Merlin Metals currently list guide prices for a 15mm boarded panel and are in the process of confirming whether or not the pull out value is acceptable for the seam clips. So that we can then  fully recomend their use on residential or commercial projects as a substrate for the standing seam panels we supply. Once we have this information we will publish it here.

Some companies have been happy fixing into 11mm board but we would not recommend this unless for a small garden building.

15mm seems more appropriate for larger projects & while 15mm may very well suffice, we do need to verify this with testing to see if it meets the recommended pull out values of 560 Newtons (minimum) per clip as stated in the UK Guide to Good Practice in Fully Supported Metal Roofing and Cladding 3rd edition.
